In vitro fertilisation (IVF) has helped many take control of their fertility journey. Widely considered the most effective fertility treatment available today, it supports individuals and couples in overcoming a range of fertility challenges with expert care.
For many couples and individuals, using their eggs and sperm for IVF is the preferred route to conception.
Some hopeful parents may require donor eggs due to factors such as age, early menopause, or other fertility-affecting conditions.
If using a partner’s sperm is not an option, IVF with donor sperm provides a pathway to parenthood. In this process, eggs are fertilised in the laboratory with anonymous donor sperm, and a single embryo is transferred to the uterus.
The embryo transfer is a simple, painless procedure performed under ultrasound guidance by our fertility consultants. It does not require anaesthesia. We aim for a single embryo transfer to optimise outcomes and reduce the chance of multiple pregnancies. Any remaining viable embryos are frozen and stored for future use if needed.
About 10 to 14 days after embryo transfer, a pregnancy test is performed to confirm success. If positive, the first pregnancy ultrasound is scheduled about 2-3 weeks later to confirm a healthy, ongoing pregnancy. You will be referred to your GP for antenatal care.
